Important Announcements

12/11/21 - We are at Covid alert level 3.2

As you will have heard, schools will be returning to onsite learning from Wednesday 17th November. However, to abide by strict health and safety guidelines onsite learning will look different under the current alert level. Certain classes will be open for the following days and times (please see the timetable below).

Children will only be able to attend on the days designated for their class and if you have informed us in advance of their return. Online learning will be provided on the days that your child’s class is not rostered to be at school. If you decide in the next couple of weeks that you would like them to return you will need to ring the school or message the teacher to discuss this before sending them as we need to ensure we keep the bubbles at a certain size.

Please ensure that we have your most up to date contact information so that we can contact you for any concerns or messages. You can do this by phoning on 2745390 or emailing the school at office@dawson.school.nz, messaging the teacher on seesaw or filling in the google form on the school website at dawson.school.nz

There are several health and safety rules we will be following and under level 3.2 the following restrictions and guidelines will apply…

  • Gates will be open from 8.45am to 9.15am - children will not be admitted to the school grounds before or after this time, they will need to go straight to their room and not mix with other classes.

  • School will start at 9am and finish at 2.15pm - there will be three different gates for children to enter and exit - 2 on Haumia Way, one on Dawson Road.

  • Only parents that are enrolling a new child may come on site and this requires you to scan the QR code, wear a mask, sanitise and go directly to the office.

  • Parents - do not congregate closer than 2 meters while waiting at the gate and please wear a mask.

  • Children in Years 4, 5 and 6 will need to wear a mask whenever they are inside - provide your child with a mask to wear at school. This is optional for Years 1, 2 and 3.

  • All children will wash or sanitise their hands every time they enter or leave a room. Children are asked to cough or sneeze into their elbow.

  • Children will be kept in their bubble with their class, they will have designated play and eating areas and every step will be taken to limit their contact with other classes.

  • Any children that are sick must not attend school, if a child appears to have any symptoms or feels unwell during the day will need to be picked up and remain at home until they are well.

  • Lunch will be provided for those on site, however fruit will not be delivered until the 22nd November so we encourage you to send a morning tea snack until then.

  • The classrooms and bathrooms will be thoroughly cleaned each day

  • At this time students will not be using bikes, attending cooking, music or involved in any large group events such as assemblies.

  • As ventilation is important, windows and doors will be open in all classrooms, classes will have regular outside breaks and some learning may take part outside (weather permitting)

  • Homework such as reading books will not be going home, if you have any of these at home please return them to school.

  • A copy of our full risk mitigation plan can be found below.

We understand there may be concerns and fears about your child returning to school, if you are concerned about any issue please contact the school office or your child’s teacher to discuss this.

Stay safe,
